The Hon. Harinder Takhar, Ontario Minister for Small Business and Entrepreneurship will serve as the chief guest for the award presentation which will take place during High Tea event in the legislative Dining Room of the Main Legislative building at Queens Park.
Project Beyshick began in 2005 as a way to nurture corporate leadership and entrepreneurship among First Nations youth and their communities. It is a joint venture between the POA Foundation and the Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN). Each participant in Project Beyshick is selected based on demonstrated interest in the world of business, entrepreneurship and corporate leadership
This $15,000 Business Plan award was created through equal contributions from the POA Educational Foundation, Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN), and Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund (NADF). It is awarded to the participant who participates in the week-long event, and within a specified time, prepares a professional business or career plan that is seen as feasible and ‘ the best’ plan compared to his/her colleagues.
For their Business Plan submissions, participants were provided guidance from their executive mentor, the POA Educational Foundation, and professors from the Ryerson School of Business.
POA Educational Foundation (poafoundation.org) is a charitable foundation that aims to provide support for educational and entrepreneurial initiatives that target regions with specific challenges and pressing needs.
NAN (www.nan.on.ca) is a political organization representing 49 First Nations communities across northern Ontario. NAN territory represents approximately 45,000 people and covers an area of approximately 200,000 square miles.
NADF (www.nadf.org) is an aboriginal owned and controlled organization delivering business and financial services to the aboriginal people in Northern Ontario.
